The Tiwi Islands Regional Council are seeking an experienced Manager of Sport and Recreation to join our organisation. This dynamic and exciting role will see you managing the sport and recreation programs across the Tiwi Islands.
Operating under the direction of the General Manager Community Engagement and in accordance with Council corporate plans, policies and relevant legislation the key objectives of the position are to manage, direct and oversee all Sport & Recreation services and programs in a cost effective and operationally efficient manner.
The Manager Sport and Recreation is responsible for the effective delivery of the following broad areas:
- Manage, direct and oversee all Sport & Recreation programs in a cost effective and operationally efficient manner, including;
- Undertake planning and forecasting of all Sport & Recreation Activities across the calendar year
- Coordinate the daily operations of the swimming pools, sporting grounds and recreation halls, within allocated budget.
- Provide day-to-day support for sport & recreation officers.
- Provide on-site training to staff to build capacity across the Islands including the three main sites of Wurrumiyanga, Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi.
What are we looking for?
Essential
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma qualifications or similar or extensive experience in a relevant field relating to sport and recreation.
- Demonstrated experience delivering the Sport & Recreation Programs of a Local Government (or similar entity).
- High level interpersonal skills including proven ability to communicate clearly, negotiate persuasively, influence strategically, facilitate and express ideas clearly and coherently, both orally and in writing, and influence key stakeholders to achieve required outcomes.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within the social, political and cultural environments of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.
- Demonstrated track record of supervision skills including the management and training of staff.
- Certificate in First Aid and CPR; Drivers Licence and Ochre Card.
Desirable
- Relevant experience within a Local Government body with similar complexities to Tiwi Islands Regional Council.
- Experience in Pool maintenance.
- Bronze Medallion – Royal Life Saving.
